Starting from Marina Bay, heading alongside one of the most unique airport runways in the world, before turning by Western Beach and making the journey home. The event is in aid of promoting our beautiful Gibraltar and healthy living.
How will swimmers swimming in the opposite direction be separated - Swimmer safety is our top priority, and the course has been carefully designed to keep all participants clearly separated at all times. Safety kayakers and support vessels will be positioned along the route to actively monitor movement, guide swimmers if needed, and maintain safe spacing between those heading in opposite directions. This structured setup means swimmers can focus on enjoying the experience, knowing there is a clear, controlled system in place to keep everyone safe and on course.
What safety precautions have been taken? Experienced Safety Teams Qualified safety crews will be present throughout the course, including trained kayakers and support boat teams who are experienced in open water events and swimmer assistance. Full Water Coverage Support vessels will be strategically positioned along the entire route, ensuring there is constant supervision and rapid response capability at every stage of the swim Medical Support On Site Professional medical teams, including St John Ambulance, will be in attendance with the equipment and expertise to respond quickly to any situation. Clear Course Management. The swim route has been carefully planned with safety in mind, allowing for controlled movement of swimmers and easy monitoring by the safety teams. Pre-Event Briefing. All swimmers will receive a full safety briefing before entering the water, covering the route, key checkpoints, and what to do if assistance is needed. Collaboration with Authorities. The event has been coordinated with key local authorities and organisations including the Royal Air Force, marina operators, and local maritime partners to ensure all safety measures meet high standards. Support from Local Marine Operators. Local dolphin tour operators, sailing schools, and marine businesses will be assisting on the water, adding additional layers of visibility and support. Controlled Event Environment. This is a managed event with a limited number of participants, allowing for close supervision and a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. All of these measures work together to create a safe, well-organised environment so swimmers can focus on the experience with confidence.
Are there trophies for age groups? This event is not a race. All participants will receive event memorabilia.
Are wetsuits allowed. Yes
Will FINA rules apply? No, This is not a competitive event.
Where is the start location
The swim will start from the jetty beside the jet ski parking area located at the end of Marina Bay, Gibraltar. This location is also shown in the welcome video on the website.
What time does registration open and close?
Registration opens at 11:30am. All swimmers must complete registration and sign their waiver forms during this time.
What time does the swim start?
The swim will officially begin at 12:00pm.
What time should swimmers arrive?
All swimmers should arrive for 11:30am to allow enough time for registration, waiver signing and the welcome briefing.
Will there be toilets or changing facilities?
Yes. Toilet and changing facilities will be pointed out to all swimmers during the welcome talk before the event begins.
Is there a bag drop area? Yes. Bag drop arrangements will be explained and pointed out during the welcome talk.
Will there be a safety briefing?
Yes. A full welcome and safety briefing will take place before the swim starts. All participants must attend.
How will the swim start? The exact swim start procedure will be explained during the welcome talk before the event begins.
What safety support will be in place? The event will have water safety support including kayaks, canoes and jet skis monitoring swimmers throughout the course. St John Ambulance will also be present on shore for medical support.
What should I do if I get into difficulty during the swim?
If you experience any difficulty during the swim, stop swimming, remain calm and raise one arm clearly above your head to alert the nearest safety team member or support vessel.
What happens if I withdraw during the swim? Any swimmer wishing to withdraw should signal to the nearest safety vessel immediately. The safety team will assist you safely from the water.
Is there a cut off time? Yes. The swim has a 2 hour cut off time.
How does the finish work? Swimmers will exit the water at the designated finish area where marshals and support staff will assist participants safely ashore. Will results and times be published?
No. This event is not being operated as a competitive race and official results or rankings will not be published. Will there be prizes or a presentation ceremony? All finishers will receive a participation T shirt at the end of the event.
